Moving from one home to another
A home move starts at the door of the old apartment and ends with your things standing in the right rooms of the new one. You can pack yourself or order packing separately. Details such as dismantling and reassembling furniture are agreed in advance, so nobody has to improvise on moving day.
What a home move covers
- Carrying your belongings from the apartment to the van, and from the van into the new home
- Dismantling and reassembling furniture to the extent agreed in advance
- Protection for the journey: moving blankets, stretch wrap and load straps
- Handling heavy items such as the washing machine, fridge, sofa and wardrobes
- Transport from the old address to the new one on the agreed day
- Boxes carried into the room each one is labelled for
How the move runs
- 1Survey: you tell us what is moving, from where and to where. We go through floors, lifts, carrying distance and parking at both ends.
- 2Quote and schedule: you get a written quote that itemises the work. The date and the arrival time are agreed together.
- 3Moving day: everything is wrapped, carried out and driven over. At the new address you say which room each item belongs in.
- 4Walk-through at the end: we check together that everything has arrived and the furniture is standing where you want it.
Good to know
Most Finnish apartment buildings are run by a housing company (taloyhtiö), and using the lift, driving into the courtyard or opening a barrier are its rules to set. Agree all of that a few days ahead, not on the morning itself. A reserved parking space on the street in front of the door has to be applied for from the city, so start that early. Mention narrow stairwells, tight doorways and unusually heavy items in your quote request, because they change both the crew size and the equipment needed. Empty and defrost the fridge and freezer well in advance, and keep your passport, residence permit card, medicines, keys and important papers in a bag you carry yourself. If something must not be moved, or has to be taken apart before transport, say so before moving day.
