Frequently asked questions

These are the questions that come up in almost every move. If you are new to how moving works in Finland, start here. If your own question is not on the list, ask it directly when you get in touch.

What affects the price of a move?
The volume of things, the distance, the access at both ends (floor, lift and how far things have to be carried), the timing, and which stages you include. Packing, dismantling and reassembling furniture, storage and move-out cleaning are each a separate part of the job. The exact price is calculated once those details are known, and it is written into the quote.
How do I get a quote?
Fill in the quote request form or get in touch, and give the origin and destination addresses, the floors and whether there is a lift, the size of your home and the date you have in mind. Say as well whether you want transport only or the full move including packing. For large or awkward jobs the details can be checked with photos or a visit before the quote is written. You get the quote in writing, with the scope and the terms itemised.
What actually happens on moving day?
The day starts at the agreed time at the old address, with a short walk-through of what is going and what is staying. Your things are wrapped, carried out, and the load is strapped down before the van leaves. At the new address you say which room each box and each piece of furniture belongs in, and furniture is reassembled to the extent agreed. At the end both spaces are checked together so that nothing is left behind in the van.
How should I prepare for the move?
Agree lift use and parking with the housing company (taloyhtiö) in advance, and apply for a reserved street space if the van cannot get close to the door. Pack your boxes and label them by room, empty and defrost the fridge and freezer, and take apart the furniture you agreed to handle yourself. File your change-of-address notification (muuttoilmoitus) too. One submission reaches both the Digital and Population Data Services Agency and Posti, though having old post forwarded is a separate service you order yourself. Keep your passport and residence permit, medicines, keys, chargers and valuables in a bag you carry personally, and tell us beforehand about anything unusually heavy, valuable or difficult to move.
Can I get moving boxes and packing materials from you?
Boxes and packing materials are covered when the quote is drawn up: that is where it is agreed what is delivered, when it arrives and how the empty boxes come back afterwards. Give the size of your home and an estimate of how much there is in your quote request, so the amount of material can be judged correctly. If you are packing yourself, mention whether you also need protective material for fragile things.
Which areas do you cover?
The service area is listed on the areas page, and it applies to the origin address and the destination address alike. If one end of your move falls outside it, send both addresses and the date when you get in touch and we will look at it case by case. You get an answer either way before you have to commit to anything.
Can I cancel or change the date?
Moving dates shift all the time. A property deal slips, a renovation runs late, or a rental contract starts a week later than planned. That is why the cancellation and rescheduling terms are written into the quote and the order confirmation. Tell us as soon as you know, because a change flagged early is almost always easier to arrange than a last-minute one. The new date is confirmed back to you in writing.
How do I pay, and when?
The accepted payment methods and the point at which payment falls due are stated in the quote, so you see the terms before committing to anything. Say when you get in touch whether you are ordering as a private person or in a company's name, because that changes the invoicing details. If you need the labour share itemised on the invoice for your tax return, ask for it at the quote stage rather than afterwards.

Still have a question?

Describe your situation in your own words and you get a direct answer to it. If you already know the details of your move, you get a quote at the same time.
